Hi everyone,
I’m currently in the planning phase of building a new residential property in Balham, and I’m looking for a qualified and experienced architect to help bring this vision to life. Balham’s a fantastic area — lively, well-connected, and full of charm — but it also comes with its own architectural quirks and planning challenges.
I’ve noticed that many homes here have unique layouts and beautiful leafy facades that blend classic and modern styles, which I love. I want to make sure the architect I choose understands the local character and knows how to make the best use of limited garden space — something that’s clearly a common issue in this area.
Does anyone have recommendations for architects with real experience working in Balham? Ideally someone who’s RIBA certified and has a strong portfolio of residential projects. I’d really appreciate any advice or referrals from people who’ve gone through this already!
Thanks in advance for your help!
Hey, I actually went through the same search a few months ago and found a great firm — Armstrong Simmonds Architects https://www.as-architects.co.uk/residential-architects-balham/. They’re based in Battersea and are fully RIBA-certified, which was a big plus for me. What really sold me on them is that they specialize in residential architecture and have specific experience with projects in Balham.
They totally understand the local vibe — the mix of classic street fronts and limited garden space — and they know how to work creatively within those constraints. Their team is highly professional and focuses on high-quality, custom solutions for each client.
I think they might be exactly what you're looking for. Definitely check them out — their website has some great case studies and a solid portfolio.
